EKG & Holter Monitoring

Simple, non-invasive tests that record your heart's electrical activity to uncover rhythm problems.

What are EKG and Holter monitoring?

An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) records your heart's electrical signals in just a few seconds using small stickers placed on the skin. A Holter monitor extends that recording over 24 to 48 hours, and an event monitor over weeks, so we can capture rhythm problems that come and go and might be missed by a brief in-office EKG.

Why it's done

These tests help diagnose palpitations, atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias, evaluate unexplained fainting, dizziness, or racing heartbeats, check the effects of medication, and monitor the heart over time. They are often the first step when someone notices an irregular or skipped heartbeat.

How to prepare

No special preparation is needed. For longer monitoring it helps to wear a loose, two-piece outfit, and you'll be advised to avoid lotions or oils on the chest so the electrodes stick well.

What to expect

An in-office EKG is quick and completely painless — electrodes on, a few seconds of recording, electrodes off. For a Holter or event monitor, you'll wear a small, discreet device during your normal daily activities and keep a brief diary of any symptoms, then return the device for analysis.

Understanding your results

We correlate the recording with your symptom diary to see exactly what your heart was doing when you felt palpitations, dizziness, or other symptoms. That information tells us whether the rhythm is benign or needs treatment, and guides the next steps.

Is it safe?

Completely. EKG and Holter monitoring are non-invasive, painless, and carry no risk — the device only listens to your heart, it does nothing to it.

Insurance & scheduling

We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare. When a test or treatment is medically necessary, it is typically covered — our team verifies your benefits and explains any out-of-pocket costs before you begin. Request an appointment through our contact page or call (281) 807-5253.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an EKG and a Holter monitor?

An EKG records your heart's rhythm for a few seconds in the office. A Holter monitor records continuously for 24–48 hours (or an event monitor for weeks) to catch rhythm problems that come and go.

Does an EKG hurt?

Not at all. Small stickers (electrodes) are placed on your skin to listen to the heart's electrical signals. Nothing is sent into your body, and the test takes seconds.

Can I shower while wearing a Holter monitor?

Most standard Holter monitors should be kept dry, so you'll usually be asked to avoid showering or bathing while wearing it. Your care team gives device-specific instructions.

Why would I need heart-rhythm monitoring?

Common reasons include palpitations, a racing or skipped heartbeat, unexplained dizziness or fainting, suspected atrial fibrillation, or checking how well a medication is controlling your rhythm.

What should I do while wearing the monitor?

Go about your normal day and keep a short diary noting the time whenever you feel symptoms. Matching your symptoms to the recording is what makes the test so useful.
